Presidio E.P. available now!

A staple on rhythm guitar and harmony vocals in legendary east coast 90s alternative rock bands like (D.C.) WAMMIE award winning Hearsay and jam-band Cosmic Debris, Kent Little offers his first collection of new recordings since the Little Brown Jeny album.

Based in Austin, TX, singer-songwriter Kent Little writes folk songs defined by warm and very woody guitar textures with intimate vocals that radiate both heartbreak and optimism. His lyrically rich arrangements can range from sparse to dense, anthemic pop.

With Presidio, a curtain is raised on a solo artist debut set of character driven Americana drenched in open chords, compact song structures, and soaring choruses.

The making of Presidio

“The last several years have been fortunate for me as a songwriter. Just as I was beginning to see new patterns and new possibilities in my creative work, I suddenly transitioned to a work-from-home life. The music I was working on was suddenly given a bit more space in which to grow.

After listening to a batch of demos developed over this period, my lifelong friend and collaborator (musician and producer) Doug Kallmeyer encouraged me to consider a studio session.

In December 2021 I spent a long weekend recording at Tonal Park in Takoma Park, Maryland with Doug and Tonal Park’s incredible recording and mixing engineer Don Godwin.

Our initial intent was to capture simple one-guitar/one-vocal takes, but after the first long weekend of recording it felt like there was as an opportunity for a bigger presentation of the material.

By the end of the second session that followed in the winter of 2022, it became clear that we were working towards something worth releasing.

Watching the songs on the Presidio EP (MOON TREE RECORDS) take their final shape, stand up, and start walking around the studio during these sessions and the sessions that followed was an incredible thrill.

Doug and I spent many, many days in the studio working together on Hearsay records (Triggerfish, Lotus Sativa) a generation ago in the 90s, and to have the opportunity to work with him again creatively was truly an amazing and unexpected blessing. Proof that life can always surprise.

As I was developing these songs the world around me and life in America in general changed. The pandemic, insanity politics, and personal change became all encompassing.

It was a time to be reminded that the most precious beauty in life is always found in the simplest things: the mid-morning sun through an oak tree; the stack of sticky dishes after a child’s birthday; and the soaring West Texas skies that have long been my balm for troubled times. The songs on this EP are inspired by these blessings.

The characters that inhabit these songs are unsettled, but they are resilient. They are grateful and beholden, and they are moving towards the light. I hope you find comfort in them.”
